I am visually impaired, have perfect pitch, and play by ear. If a specific flute part or vocal melody/harmonies are needed, I must have some kind of audio rendition of it at least two weeks before the first rehearsal date in order to learn it. If no specific flute part is required, I will need a basic rendition of the main melody of each piece within two weeks' notice. Once the melody is internalized, I can easily arrange and/or improvize a suitable accompaniment. I feel much more comfortable arranging flute parts, but I am capable of coming up with suitable vocal harmonies should the situation require it.
